Community Flash Mob with Zahra Badua

As this years community engagement project are offering movers ages 9-99 the opportunity to participate in an original flash mob choreographed by Zahra Badua (Toronto). Before taking to the streets for performances in Kingston's downtown core, as well as the main stage festival event July 10th-13th 2024, the group will participate in two Zoom rehearsals and three in-person rehearsals.

The Ground UP Dance Festival is thrilled to be welcoming re-known dance artist, choreographer, engager and teacher, Peggy Baker, to Kingston this summer. Paired with Baker’s performances of UN(MOORED), she will be offering two movement-lead workshops to the Kingston Community.

A breathtaking, heartfelt and Peggy Baker and Sarah Chase came together In 2003 to make a work. Prior to beginning their work together, Chase requested that Peggy completed the task of writing two stories for each year of life. Year’s later Peggy attending a 5-week fellowship in Italy. Guided by Jane Hirschfield’s extraordinary book Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry , and was able to write down the stories that she wasn’t ready to share back in 2003, which was followed by sharing a in-progress work influenced by Peggy’s writings and the incorporation of Chase’s initial movements from their previous collaboration.

The annual main stage performance event for The Ground UP Dance Festival, is set to happen during dusk at the paved performance pad of Lake Ontario Park.
